St. John the Divine Church Youth Club

St John the Divine Youth Club opened in July 1994. The project was set up to offer a youth provision that would respond to the needs of young people in the area between the ages of 8-18. Our aim is to give them a sense of trust, self worth, confidence and respect: to make them feel that they are a positive part of the community that they lived in. St. John the Divine offers provisions for young people in the area of Earlsfield and particularly to the Henry Prince Estate at the back of St. John the Divine parish church.

When we first started out, we had quite a small group of young people. We organised a Summer Scheme which was really successful and numbers grew. The youth project now works with an average of 70 young people who are mostly from the estate attached to the church.

By attending the youth club and participating in different activities and tasks, children are able to express their views and meet other young people in the area.

The Young people said:- ‘The Club gives us children a break from our parents or guardian. When we go there we can let go, relax and just act like kids where as when we are at home we have to worry about chores, homework and behaviour around our parents. It also gives us something to do with our time rather than running up a phone bill, roaming the streets and causing havoc. We like the chance to develop ourselves and learn more.’
